World Languages and Cultures 400
WLC 400 completes Major Learning Outcome 1, and it will be completed by spring 2014. This course will fulfill this MLO with the final presentations of my capstone that occur at the end of the semester. One of the presentations was done with my capstone advisor in the target language of Spanish with my presentation being in Spanish as well. I had d another presentation in Spanish but with an English presentation as support during the capstone festival with family and friends. I completed my capstone research paper and then turned that information into a twenty-minute presentation. Although there was little practice done in the actual class, this class gave the opportunity to meet with my advisor to work on my final presentation. This MLO is the most important to me because being able to speak and express myself in a fluent manner is what studying Spanish is all about, along with learning about the language and culture. The ultimate goal of this MLO is to be able to reiterate in Spanish all the knowledge I learned during my research project. Speaking Spanish is the fundamental demonstration of one’s language ability and is something I will need to continue working on for a lifetime. Speaking is the most difficult part of learning a language because it takes much confidence and a well responding audience to progress. We did not receive much language speaking practice in the actual course, but it is the most important presentation and demonstration of our speaking abilities that we do in this university.
